Hey, Go outside Today

Wait, wait! I swear I have more to this post than just "go touch grass."

How long has it been since you went outside? And, No, I don't mean outside in a brief interval from your car to your work, or to a store. How long has it been since you've been outside, as an experience, and not as a passageway? How long has it been since you've seen the world outside your regularly visited buildings, as something to walk through to get to your next task?

That's something important to keep in mind. I've noticed people have gotten a lot less observant of their surroundings. Have you noticed the new restaurant that just opened? Could you tell me what they cook? Have any of the trees been cut in the area, or the bushes trimmed back? How many walls in the area are the same color? Are you sure?

As we grow more an more focused on just getting through the next task in our live, we get increasingly out of focus of experiencing life as life, or just acting on it as a series of checkpoints and avoidances.

So, I would encourage you to go outside today. Not to just walk from one building parking lot to your car, or your car to your house, but go outside, and just try to observe your area. What exists around you at the present moment? What sounds can you hear? Are there birds? Cars? Electricity humming? Who is near you? Have you ever seen them here before? Are they wearing anything that says something about who they are?

Please take the time to witness your own life. Otherwise, the parts that make it beautiful, the parts that make it distinct, just might pass you by.
